Plant Description and Operating Era
The Valley Forge PA campus has functioned as the corporate headquarters, engineering, and administrative center for CertainTeed and its parent Saint-Gobain North America. Product engineering, technical specifications, sales, and corporate management for CertainTeed’s asbestos-cement pipe (Transite, Fluid-Tite), asbestos-cement roofing, asbestos siding, and sprayed asbestos fireproofing product lines were allegedly directed from the Valley Forge / Malvern corporate offices during the U.S. asbestos era.
Premises ACM Narrative
At the CertainTeed Valley Forge PA campus during the U.S. asbestos era (approximately 1960s-1985), plaintiffs have alleged premises ACM presence typical of large corporate office and engineering campuses of the period:
- Asbestos sprayed fireproofing on structural steel (pre-1973 EPA ban)
- Asbestos pipe covering on building steam mains and mechanical-room piping
- Asbestos-block lagging on boilers and heat exchangers
- Asbestos-cement Transite panels in mechanical rooms and utility enclosures
- Asbestos ceiling tiles and floor tiles / mastic in office and engineering areas
- Asbestos sheet gaskets at mechanical-room flanges
- Product samples, test articles, and demonstration boards containing asbestos-cement pipe, board, and roofing shingles kept at the engineering and sales offices

- HFIAW Insulators — building steam pipe covering and mechanical-room lagging
- UA Pipefitters — building steam and hydronic piping
- IBB Boilermakers — building boiler work
- IBEW Electricians — building electrical

- Building maintenance and facilities workers
- CertainTeed engineering, sales, and administrative staff allegedly exposed to product samples and demonstration materials
- Construction and renovation trades working on the campus during the asbestos era
